Manage product categories

Use categories and sub-categories to group similar products together. This helps to find product and service records more easily and helps with analysis and reporting.

Create categories and sub-categories for stock items

Assign to a product, service or stock item

Filter the following reports by category and subcategory.

  • Sales revenue report

  • Stock movement report

Create a new category: 

  1. Select Products & Services.
  2. Select the New Item drop down, then Manage Categories.
  3. Enter category name.
  4. If you want a sub-category, tick the Make a sub-category check box and select the parent category it will fall under.

    Report on sub-categories individually or rolled up into a parent category.

  5. Select Save.

Edit a category

If you need to, you can change the name of a category, change its parent category or start / stop it being a sub-category.

  1. From Products & Services.
  2. Select the New Item drop down, then Manage Categories.
  3. Select the relevant category you want to edit.
  4. Make the necessary changes, then Save.

Delete a category

When you delete a category, it’s automatically removed from any stock, non-stock or service records it’s associated with. If the category has sub-categories, then the sub-categories become top-level categories.

  1. From Products & Services.
  2. Select the New Item drop down, then Manage Categories.
  3. Select the relevant category, then Delete .

Assign categories to a product and service records

Make sure you've already set up the category as above, before you do this.

  1. Go to Products & Services.
  2. Select the relevant record, then Edit.
  3. Select the relevant category, then Save.
