Set up your system for cheque printing

To make printing easier, we recommend you perform the following steps before setting up cheque printing:

  1. Install the latest version of Adobe Reader.
  2. Install the latest version of Google Chrome and use it as your browser.
  3. Verify that your browser's Zoom setting is set to 100% (so that text and images appear at their default size, not smaller or larger). In Google Chrome, this setting appears on the browser menu.
  4. Open a PDF document in your browser, click Print, and in the print dialog box, verify that your system does not add margins or use a "fit to page" setting. In the Google Chrome print dialog box:
    • Verify that the Fit to page check box is not selected.
    • Click More settings, and on the Margins list, verify that Default is selected.

Print and align a test cheque

After you set up cheque printing, print a test cheque with sample data to ensure that cheque stock will be aligned correctly in your printer.

When printing your first test cheque, use regular Letter size paper. A measurement grid prints that you can use to align cheque information before printing on cheque stock.

To print and align a test cheque:

  1. Set up cheque printing as described in the previous section.
  2. On the Cheque Printing Settings page, click Print Setup.
  3. On the Cheque Printing Setup dialog box, click Print Test Cheque 1 to print a test cheque with a measurement grid that you can use to align cheque information.
  4. Place the printed test cheque on top of a sheet of cheque stock and hold them up to a light source to see if the printed numbers line up with the cheque stock.
    • If the printed numbers line up with the cheque stock:
      1. Select Yes - the numbers are in the right place.
      2. Click Continue.
      3. Click All Done!
    • If the printed numbers do not line up with the cheque stock:
      1. Select No - I need to adjust where the numbers are printed.
      2. Click Continue.
      3. Count the number of grid squares the printed numbers need to move up, down, left, or right, and enter your adjustments in the dialog box that appears.
      4. Click Continue.
      5. Click Print Test Cheque again, and then repeat this entire step until the printed numbers line up with the cheque stock.
      6. Click Continue.
      7. Click All Done!

Your cheque alignment settings are saved and you are ready to print cheques.
